What Happens If My Visa Expires While I'm In Indonesia?
Overstaying your visa in Indonesia is a serious matter with clear consequences, and it is crucial to address the situation immediately. The most common penalty for overstaying is a daily fine. For travelers who have overstayed a tourist visa or visa-on-arrival for a short period, the standard procedure is to pay a fine for each day you have remained in the country after your visa expired. The fine is approximately IDR 1 million per day. This fee is typically paid at the airport upon your departure.
However, if you overstay for a significant period (generally over 60 days), the consequences become much more severe and can include:
- Deportation: You will be officially removed from Indonesia at your own expense.
- Blacklisting: After deportation, you will likely be banned from re-entering Indonesia for a set period, which could be six months or even longer, depending on the severity of the violation.
- Immigration Detention: In very serious cases, you could be detained in an immigration facility while your case is being processed.
A record of overstaying can also make it difficult to obtain visas for Indonesia or other countries in the future.
