What Is The Procedure For Obtaining A Temporary Residence Permit If Staying Long-Term In Uzbekistan?

“Foreign citizens temporarily staying in Uzbekistan must register within three working days of arrival at their destination, excluding weekends and public holidays. Hotels and guesthouses typically handle registration automatically and provide registration slips—keep these safe as they may be requested at border crossings.

For private stays, hosts must register guests through the e-mehmon.uz program or by submitting a written application to local internal affairs bodies. For private stays, the host registers the guest through the e-mehmon.uz platform using only the guest’s passport details; no additional documents or state duty payments are required for temporary registration.

To extend your temporary registration, you must apply to the territorial internal affairs office at least three working days before the registration expires. Permanent residence permits, which are valid for five years, are issued only to foreigners who meet specific eligibility criteria—such as family ties to Uzbek citizens, long-term employment, investment, or humanitarian grounds. Applicants must submit their passport, proof of eligibility, housing documents, photographs, and fee receipt to the Department of Migration and Citizenship Registration. The fee is calculated based on the current Base Calculating Amount (BCA) and may vary annually.
