How Do I Navigate Customs Regulations When Entering Or Exiting Uzbekistan?

Uzbek customs regulations require:

  1. Currency Declaration:
If you carry more than $2,000 (in cash or equivalent) when entering or leaving Uzbekistan, you must declare the full amount to customs using the T-6 form upon arrival. If you bring less than $5,000, a declaration is usually not required. Exporting Uzbek som is allowed up to 5 times the minimum monthly wage without declaration, and up to 50 times the minimum monthly wage if declared.
  2. Fill Out the T-6 Customs Declaration:
Complete this form if you are carrying more than $2,000 in foreign currency or items that must be declared, such as valuable jewelry, cultural property, antiques, or prescription medications. Have your form stamped by customs and keep it—it is required on departure to avoid issues.
  3. Declare Controlled or Restricted Items:
Medications (especially prescription drugs), high-value electronics, jewelry, precious metals, or cultural/animal products should be declared. Export of antiques and cultural property needs special government permission.
  4. Exiting Uzbekistan:
When leaving, show your stamped declaration if taking out any declared items or currency. Customs officers will match declared values to what you’re carrying. If you lose your declaration form, you may face significant delays and may not be allowed to export the items or currency you previously declared.
  5. Practical Tips:
Follow airport signs and instructions, and if unsure about an item, always ask customs. Do not attempt to bring in or take out prohibited or restricted items without the right paperwork.

Complying with these rules ensures a smooth entry and exit from Uzbekistan without fines or confiscations.
