Are There Any Restrictions on Photography at Religious Sites or Government Buildings?

While Uzbekistan has relaxed many photography restrictions to encourage tourism, some limitations still apply. Tourists are generally free to take photos and videos in most public spaces, including the architecturally stunning Tashkent metro stations.

However, photography is strictly prohibited in certain areas, including:

  • Government buildings
  • Military installations
  • Border zones

When visiting religious sites, photography is often allowed, but sometimes a fee is required. It’s always best to check for posted signs or ask for permission before taking pictures, especially of local people or during religious ceremonies. The use of drones by tourists is generally not permitted unless special authorization has been granted, typically for professional film crews.

By respecting these guidelines, visitors can capture memorable moments without running afoul of local regulations.
